What's new in Demole

Every release, newest first.

Citation checking, workflow automation, and a better client experience

Six additions aimed at the gaps firms ask about most: catching bad citations before they're filed, automating the routine checklist on every matter, getting paid, and staying in touch with clients.

New
  • Citation Validity Checker (Tools). Paste a brief, memo or motion and every case citation is checked against a real case-law database: does a decision with that citation exist, and do its name and year match how you cited it? A real citation attached to the wrong case is flagged for review. Only the citations are sent to the lookup service — never your document. You can save the result as a report for the file.
  • Workflows (sidebar). Define a checklist once and Demole creates the tasks, with due dates, when a case of a matching type is opened or a case moves to a status you choose — for example, a closing checklist when a matter is closed. Starter workflows for personal injury, family, estate planning and matter closing are one click away, and you can apply any workflow to an existing case by hand. Workflows also run for cases created through the API.
  • QuickBooks Online (Integrations). Connect your QuickBooks company, send an invoice from its page, and check its paid status later. The customer and invoice lines, tax and total are carried across. Only invoices are sent — client trust-account balances never are.
  • LawPay payment links (Integrations). Add your LawPay operating and trust payment pages once. Invoices and invoice PDFs then show a pay link to the operating page, and the client portal offers the trust page separately for retainers, so client funds aren't steered into the wrong account.
  • Client intake forms (Clients → Intake forms). Build a form with your own questions and share its link. Submissions arrive in an inbox where you can review them, jump to a conflict check, and convert one into a client record in a click.
  • Secure client messaging (Messages). Message a client through their portal; they reply from there. Each side sees when there's something new.
  • Reports (sidebar). Billable time, invoices and receivables, and case status for any date range, optionally grouped by client, case, attorney, status or month — previewed on screen and exported as a CSV for Excel or Sheets.
Improved
  • The client portal is no longer view-only: alongside case status, a client now sees their unpaid invoices and their message thread. They still cannot change any case data.
  • The case page shows which workflows have run on the case and lets you apply another.
  • Invoice pages have a Payment & accounting panel for the LawPay link and the QuickBooks status.
Good to know
  • The citation check confirms that a decision exists and that its name and year line up. It does not tell you whether the case is still good law or supports your point — use a citator and read the case. "Not found" means verify it yourself: the database doesn't cover every decision.
  • Live citation verification and the QuickBooks connection depend on credentials set up for your Demole deployment. Until they are, the checker lists the citations it found with links to check them by hand, and Integrations says QuickBooks isn't set up yet.
  • LawPay payments happen on LawPay's own page, so Demole can't see them — mark the invoice Paid once the payment clears. Automatic reconciliation would need LawPay's partner API.
  • Client messages stay in the portal; Demole doesn't send email or text alerts, so clients see new messages when they next log in.
  • Intake forms are public by link and don't accept file uploads. Every form carries a notice that submitting it doesn't create an attorney-client relationship, which you can replace with your own wording.
